Mackey Mountain is one of Old Fort's best kept secrets. Maybe that's because it was built around 100 years ago and it was all but forgotten for decades. Untill... Trail Crew Lead Kendall Weaver took it upon himself to make this epic old trail hikable AND runable again! Over the course of 3+ years the corridor has been cleared and enough treadwork has been completed to access to the summit of mackey mountain again! Now that there's access all the way to the peak, we're heading in to micro- align (slightly move) a section of trail around 2.5 miles out on the way to mackey peak (5 mile round trip). This is a BIG long day with a long and gorgeous hike and out.
Trail work day difficulty rating HARD: 4.5/5 Long hike in, carrying tools heavy digging
Be sure to bring plenty of snacks and water (at least 3 litres), sturdy hiking boots, eye protection long pants, gloves and whatever you need to stay comfortable for a great day in the forest!
