Standing Strong Together

Dear Camp Grier/G5 Friends and Family,

In the wake of the devastating back-to-back storms that recently struck Old Fort and the surrounding areas, our team has been working tirelessly to begin recovery efforts. While our staff and a few specialized volunteers have been hard at work at Camp Grier, our hearts remain close to home as we keep the entire Western North Carolina region in our prayers and on our minds. Camp Grier has long been an integral part of the Old Fort community and the wider McDowell County region, and now, more than ever, we are committed to supporting our neighbors during this unimaginable time.At camp, we are diligently restoring our systems to serve as a critical support hub for disaster responders and recovery efforts across the region. From clearing roads and rebuilding bridges to ensuring safe water access and power generation, our team is preparing to provide the infrastructure necessary for recovery operations—both in the immediate and long-term future.

Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival

Camp Grier is proud to host The Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival December 7, 2024. The goal of this event is to raise awareness and funding for the Old Fort Strong Fund, which aims to put money directly into the hands of Old Fort residents and businesses as they rebuild their homes and repair their businesses affected by Hurricane Helene.  Over 50 homes in Old Fort were either damaged or completely destroyed.  Our goal is to raise a minimum of 2 million in donations for this fund to help provide relief, rebuild homes, and support local businesses that have suffered in Old Fort.
