TRAIL MAINTENANCE
Each year an army of people contribute thousands of volunteer hours maintaining Grandfather District trails. Our goal is to work with the USFS and user groups to identify maintenance needs and problem areas. Plans and solutions will be created with the volunteers assisting in the maintenance work. You can report a district trail maintenance need here. <link>
TRAIL DEVELOPMENT
Trail development is expensive. Our goal is to increase funding opportunities, both public and private, supporting new trail construction in the Grandfather District making the trail network more diverse for a wider variety of users and groups. This means better parking and trailheads, more loop options and trail connections with better trail markings.
TRAIL COMMUNITY
We all have ownership in our public lands. The Grandfather District is too large for one user group or one set of volunteers to maintain. Our goal is to further develop the volunteer base around user group areas of interest. We want to add volunteers to the district and coordinate those efforts across the district.
CURRENT FOCUS AREA
We can't tackle everything at once. Our current focus area is McDowell County and specifically the Old Fort Trail Complex. with the USFS and other user groups we have identified some small, yet critical, trail connections as well as
